Mazenett & Quiroga

Mazenett & Quiroga is a collaborative artist duo formed by Julián Quiroga (b. 1983, Colombia) and Karen Mazenett (b. 1983, Colombia), who have been working together since 2005. Their interdisciplinary practice engages deeply with ecology, ancestral knowledge systems, and the geopolitics of extractivism, particularly in the context of Latin America.

Mazenett & Quiroga explore the complex interdependencies between human and non-human life, examining how cosmologies, scientific knowledge, and economic systems interact with the natural environment. Their work often reflects on the aftermath of colonialism, the legacy of anthropocentrism, and the ongoing exploitation of natural resources.

Employing a research-based approach, they work across installation, sculpture, drawing, video, and performance, creating immersive environments that incorporate organic materials such as soil, seeds, medicinal plants, and minerals. Their projects frequently intersect with the disciplines of botany, ethnography, archaeology, and alchemy, offering speculative narratives about the past and future of ecosystems and civilizations.
